Public Facility Small-Scale Wedding Support Open Recruitment from the 5th
Eligible Applicants Announced
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Koo Dae-sun] Daegu City will give 1 million won each to 100 couples preparing for a "small wedding."
Daegu City announced a marriage support policy introducing wedding expense support and venues as the number of marriages hit an all-time low due to the ongoing trend of young people avoiding marriage amid economic downturn and financial burdens.
According to Statistics Korea, the number of marriages in Daegu in 2021 was 7,287, a decrease of 1,053 from 8,340 the previous year. Additionally, due to the impact of COVID-19 over the past two years, the trend of young people avoiding marriage has intensified, with a yearly decrease of over 10%.
Daegu City aims to alleviate the financial burden on couples caused by high-cost wedding culture and to spread a modest and reasonable wedding culture free from unnecessary formalities by supporting 100 couples planning to hold small weddings in 2023 with 1 million won each for wedding expenses.
Applicants must prepare documents such as an application form, consent form, and resident registration certificate, and apply by visiting the city's Birth and Childcare Division or via email. Within one month after the wedding, applicants must submit proof documents such as the wedding venue and expenses, which will be reviewed before the costs are supported.
Detailed information can be found on the Daegu City website's public notice section, and applications may close early if there are many applicants.
Jo Kyung-sun, Director of Daegu City's Youth, Women, and Education Bureau, said, "Last year, 94 couples received support and satisfaction was very high. We will continue to provide support so that a small-scale but reasonably priced wedding culture can be established."
