Integration with Smartphone SmartThings App and User Routines
Execute Pre-set Smart Home Functions with a Single Button Press
Equipped with Wireless Charging Pad Function, Supports Smartphone Device Finder
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] At CES 2023, the world's largest electronics and IT exhibition that opened on the 5th, Samsung Electronics unveiled the 'SmartThings Station,' which helps users easily and quickly use smart home functions.
Samsung Electronics enabled connection of various products supporting not only Samsung Electronics devices but also the industry's latest Internet of Things (IoT) communication standard, Matter, through the SmartThings application.
Users can easily add devices to the SmartThings app by scanning the QR code of Matter-supported products with the camera of their Galaxy smartphone. Various connected products such as smart TVs, washing machines, refrigerators, air conditioners, lights, curtains, and power outlets can be turned on, off, and controlled through the app.
The 'Routine' feature allows registered devices to operate automatically according to the user's situation. For example, when the user sets and activates 'Sleep,' the bedroom TV and lights turn off, and the curtains close, creating an environment suitable for sleep. Users can set and use three different routines according to how they touch the smart button (short press, double press, long press). Even if the user leaves home with a linked smartphone, family members remaining at home can continue to use pre-set routines by operating the button without a smartphone.
There is also a wireless charging pad function. It supports wireless charging up to 15W, allowing users to charge Galaxy smartphones and Galaxy Buds series devices. Users can also set it so that wireless charging and pre-set routines run simultaneously. When a smartphone is placed on the SmartThings Station in the bedroom, the phone charges while the routine set for sleep automatically activates.
The Galaxy device location service, 'SmartThings Find,' is also supported. When users cannot find their smartphone inside the house, pressing the 'Smart Button' twice causes the smartphone to emit a sound, making it easy to locate. The location service requires prior user setup and applies only to Galaxy smartphones and tablets.
The 'SmartThings Station' is scheduled to be released in Korea and the United States later this month. It will be available in two colors: black and white. The price is 129,000 KRW.
