Seongdong-gu to Create 35,000 Jobs by 2026 Seongdong-gu Job Fair

Focusing on Creating Happier Jobs in the 8th Term with 24 Key Projects under 4 Major Strategies

Comprehensive Job Policy Plan for the 8th Term Established: Starting with 8,400 Jobs in 2023, Creating 35,000 Jobs by 2026

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) is set to create 35,000 jobs by 2026.

The district announced on the 5th that it has established the "Seongdong-gu 8th Term Comprehensive Job Policy Plan," which includes the vision and goals for job creation, strategies, and sector-specific project plans for the 8th term.

Since the launch of the 8th term, the district has set job creation targets for each department, held review meetings on the mayor’s pledges, and gathered local opinions to establish four major strategies: ▲Building a smart innovative economy foundation ▲Creating jobs that realize social value ▲Promoting youth employment and entrepreneurship ▲Providing customized job support by target groups. Through these, the plan is to create 8,400 jobs starting in 2023 and reach 35,000 jobs by 2026.

First, the district will pursue the 8th term pledge projects such as establishing a Global Business Town and a New Administrative and Education Town, and revitalizing the Seongsu semi-industrial area. It will also strengthen the development of the 4th industrial revolution by fostering traditional manufacturing industries specialized in the region such as handmade shoes, sewing, and printing, as well as the ICT sector, while continuing gentrification prevention policies to protect small business tenants and create new industry jobs.

Support will be expanded to strengthen the self-reliance of the social economy ecosystem and to foster social ventures for the creation of a global ESG startup valley, encouraging corporate ESG activities and promoting socially innovative job creation.

Additionally, customized job projects to activate youth employment and entrepreneurship will continue. Education and training programs combining the 4th industrial revolution with existing manufacturing sectors such as handmade shoes, printing, and sewing will be operated to nurture professionals. Youth employment will be supported through youth job cafes and specialized high school employment competency programs, while fostering young merchants.

As the proportion of middle-aged and elderly populations increases annually, job expansion for these age groups is required, and job policies to support this are underway. The Seongdong 50 Plus Center, newly established last year, will support second careers and gradually increase jobs for middle-aged people. Furthermore, senior jobs will be gradually expanded through the Future Job Corporation and social activity support projects. Customized job support will also be increased for vulnerable low-income groups, persons with disabilities, and women with career experience.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, “Having received job awards for eight consecutive years during the 6th and 7th terms, we have pursued innovative and leading job policies. In the 8th term as well, we will create a city that is good for business management and make Seongdong a place with many happy jobs for residents,” expressing his aspirations.

Gangbuk-gu Aims for 64.3% Employment Rate and 38,000 Jobs by 2026

Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced the ‘8th Term Gangbuk-gu Comprehensive Job Plan’ targeting a 64.3% employment rate and the creation of 38,312 jobs.

This comprehensive plan was established in accordance with the ‘Local Job Target Disclosure System’ and outlines the job policies Gangbuk-gu will pursue over the next four years.

The district has set the vision of ‘Gangbuk, an Economic City Where My Life is Fulfilled,’ one of the seven major district directions, and proposed four core strategies: ▲Customized job support by generation and demand ▲Expansion of public jobs ▲Employment stability through employment and entrepreneurship support and labor welfare ▲Development of commercial districts and strengthening of local economic capabilities reflecting regional characteristics.

Accordingly, 13 detailed projects aimed at creating Gangbuk-style jobs and revitalizing the local economy will be intensively promoted until 2026.

To provide customized job support by generation and demand, Gangbuk Youth Job Center, Gangbuk 50 Plus Center, and Career Plus Center will be operated. These centers will offer tailored employment support programs for various groups including youth, middle-aged people over 55, and persons with developmental disabilities.

Public jobs will be expanded through projects such as the Seoul Citizen Safe Job Project, low-income youth and middle-aged public job projects, senior jobs and social activity support projects, and work-maintenance type self-support work projects.

Additionally, the district will revitalize local commercial districts by designating specialized streets by area and modernizing traditional markets. Joint marketing that preserves the tradition and characteristics of local commercial districts will be conducted, and aging facilities will be improved to create a convenient shopping environment.

More details on the Gangbuk-gu 8th Term Job Policy Comprehensive Plan can be found on the Gangbuk-gu website.

Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, “As the paradigm of job creation changes, local jobs reflecting regional characteristics are necessary. We will break away from government-led central job policy projects and establish a foundation for region-led job creation,” she said.
