Construction of Asan Tangjeong 2 New Town to Begin Next Year... "Creating a Complex Innovation Growth Hub City" Asan Tangjeong 2 Urban Development Project Bird's-eye View / Provided by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport

[Asia Economy Reporter Noh Kyung-jo] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 4th that it has established a development plan for the Asan Tangjeong 2 urban development project in Chungnam (3.57 million㎡) and will actively promote the project.

According to the development plan, future strategic industries such as autonomous vehicles and material components will be fostered and supported in the Tangjeong-myeon area of Asan City near Cheonan-Asan Station. A residential complex will also be created to develop a complex innovation growth hub city where housing, industry, and research coexist.

Specifically, Asan Tangjeong 2 will provide approximately 420,000㎡ of job space (11.8% of the total area), about 1.05 million㎡ of parks, green spaces, and rivers (29.4%), and around 22,000 households (population about 46,000).

In particular, strategic development areas such as central commercial and office sites, an R&D town integrating industry-academia-research communities, and a complex community town linking housing, parks, and schools will be designated as special planning zones to be developed as key urban landscapes and landmarks.

Looking at the specialized strategies, first, an innovation growth ecosystem will be established by attracting future strategic industries and strengthening research functions, laying the foundation for nurturing customized local talent. An advanced industry cluster and R&D town tailored to corporate demand will be created, and a shared university will also be attracted.

One of the mottos is a "people-centered 15-minute city." Three living zones are set: the northern innovation growth living zone, the central residential complex cultural living zone, and the southern creative talent living zone. Housing, jobs, cultural and commercial facilities will be accessible within a 15-minute walk. The Maegokcheon stream flowing through the city center will be specialized as a pedestrian space, with dedicated roads for personal mobility devices (PM) such as bicycles and kickboards, and public transportation routes arranged to enable movement between living zones within 15 minutes.

To respond to natural disasters caused by sudden heavy rain and heatwaves due to climate change, a disaster prevention and management system and low-impact development techniques will be introduced to create a "disaster-safe city." It also aims to be a "carbon-neutral eco-friendly green city" in daily life. By specializing Maegokcheon, a waterside park where various generations can gather will be created, and eco-friendly transportation such as hydrogen buses will be introduced.

The Asan Tangjeong 2 urban development project will finalize detailed implementation plans after environmental impact assessments, traffic impact assessments, and disaster impact assessments, and is scheduled to begin construction next year. Completion is targeted for 2029.

Gil Byung-woo, Director of Urban Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, "This Asan Tangjeong 2 development plan will greatly contribute to promoting regional innovation growth."
