In January 2019, tourists enjoyed sledding happily with their families during the Mental Arithmetic Ice Festival.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Koo Dae-sun] The "2023 Amsan Ice Festival," hosted by Andong City and organized by the Korea Foundation for Mental Culture, will be held for nine days from January 28 to February 5 at the Amsan Recreation Area in Namhu-myeon, Andong City.
Since December last year, below-freezing temperatures have continued, causing the ice on the Amsan Micheon River to freeze thicker and earlier than usual this year. Festival officials held a festival promotion committee meeting at the Namhu-myeon Office on December 22 last year to finalize the festival schedule and basic plans.
This year's Amsan Ice Festival will offer various family-friendly activities such as ice fishing, skating, sledding, and top-spinning.
Additionally, the festival will enhance the exciting winter atmosphere through the creation of ice climbing walls and photo zones, ice sculpture exhibitions, and the operation of "Han(sam)guk," a group of young dancers from Andong.
The Amsan Ice Festival site, home to one of the largest natural ice sledding areas in the country, is expected to attract many family tourists from major Yeongnam region cities such as Daegu and Busan, revitalizing local tourist spots, traditional markets, and downtown commercial districts.
The Amsan Ice Festival was canceled for three years due to COVID-19, with 2019 being the last year it was held before the hiatus.
At the Andong Talchum Park, the Andong Snowlight Festival has been taking place for 40 days from December 16 last year until January 24.
