One in Four Short-Term Chinese Arrivals Tested Positive the Day Before... 26% Positivity Rate (Comprehensive) On the afternoon of the 2nd, when mandatory COVID-19 testing for arrivals from China began, a passenger was filling out a health status questionnaire at the Incheon Airport arrival hall.

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] On the second day of the implementation of high-intensity quarantine measures for arrivals from China, it was found that one out of four short-term visitors who arrived on the 3rd tested positive for COVID-19.


According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) on the 4th, among the 1,137 arrivals from China the previous day, 281 short-term visitors staying less than 90 days underwent polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing, resulting in 73 (26.0%) confirmed cases.


Since the 2nd, the government has mandated that short-term visitors arriving from China must undergo PCR testing at a testing center located outside the arrival hall of Incheon Airport. Over two days, the cumulative number of confirmed cases among short-term visitors is 136 out of 590 (23.0%).


As of midnight on the same day, 78,575 new domestic COVID-19 cases were added, bringing the total to 29,299,166. This is 2,481 fewer than the previous day (81,056) and 8,923 fewer than a week ago on the 28th (87,498). The number of confirmed cases has been decreasing for eight consecutive days since the 28th of last month. Imported cases increased by 109 from the previous day to 172.


The number of critically ill patients hospitalized increased by 3 to 623 compared to the previous day. The number of critically ill patients has remained in the 600s for three consecutive days. There were 54 new COVID-19 related deaths, bringing the total death toll to 32,355, with a fatality rate of 0.11%.


As of midnight on the same day, the additional winter vaccination rate was 30.9% for those aged 60 and over and 54.5% for infection-vulnerable facilities.
