AimMed·Yonsei Industry-Academia Cooperation Obtains Patent for Insomnia Treatment

[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] AimMed announced on the 4th that it recently obtained a domestic patent for the "Insomnia Treatment Method (Patent No. 2478102)" jointly filed with Yonsei University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation.

This patent is for a "device providing insomnia treatment service" based on a learning algorithm. When information input from wearable devices such as sleep time, total sleep time, oxygen saturation, heart rate, and sleep-related data recorded within the application (app) such as stress scale, depression, and anxiety scale are entered into the already trained algorithm, it provides sleep-related treatment methods based on objective and subjective sleep efficiency and the value corresponding to the difference between the two.

An AimMed official stated, "It is significant that industry-academia collaboration has secured a technology patent based on algorithms, moving away from the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) patents, which were limitations of digital therapeutics (DTx)." He added, "With the patent acquisition, securing intellectual property (IP) rights for 'Somz,' the insomnia DTx designated as an 'innovative medical device' after undergoing Korea's first 'integrated review for innovative medical devices,' will greatly help in quickly capturing the market in the progress of innovative medical technology projects."
