According to reports from major foreign media on the 3rd, the two leaders are expected to discuss cooperation measures between the U.S. and Japan, as well as trilateral cooperation among the U.S., Japan, and South Korea, regarding regional issues including the threat from China and provocations by North Korea, including nuclear issues. As Prime Minister Kishida mentioned in a radio interview earlier, Japan is also expected to explain its plans to strengthen its defense capabilities through revisions to the three major security documents, including the National Security Strategy, during this meeting.
Earlier, Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun also reported, citing government officials at the end of last year, that the U.S. and Japanese leaders are coordinating plans to hold a meeting in Washington D.C. on the 13th. This will be the first time Prime Minister Kishida, who took office in October last year, visits the White House in person to meet with President Biden.
