Gongyak Pharmacy in Jungmadong Designated as Public Late-Night Pharmacy Open Until Midnight
Average Monthly Users in 2022: 206, Mostly Respiratory Disease Patients
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seonsik] Gwangyang City, Jeollanam-do announced that it will operate a 'Public Late-Night Pharmacy' open 24/7, 365 days a year, until midnight starting from January 1, 2023, following its operation in 2022.
The Public Late-Night Pharmacy aims to alleviate citizens' inconvenience when purchasing medicines during vulnerable hours (late night and holidays) and provides safe public health services through professional pharmacists' medication guidance.
The designation process for Public Late-Night Pharmacies involves a survey of pharmacies wishing to participate in the area conducted by the health center or pharmacists' association, followed by a final recommendation and designation by Jeollanam-do. The designation period is one year, supported by Jeollanam-do and Gwangyang City.
The Gwangyang City Public Late-Night Pharmacy, located in Jungmadong, recorded a total of 2,466 uses during late-night hours last year, with an average monthly medicine sales and consultation performance of 206 cases. The majority of users were aged between 20 and 40, mainly purchasing medicines related to respiratory issues and antipyretic anti-inflammatory analgesics.
Jung Honggi, Director of Gwangyang City Health Center, stated, “We will do our best to expand the designation and operation of Public Late-Night Pharmacies so that all Gwangyang citizens, including vulnerable groups such as children and pregnant women, can safely purchase medicines during vulnerable hours such as nights and holidays.”
