[Asia Economy Reporter Seomibeum] Cardinal Yeom Su-jeong and his entourage departed for the Vatican on the 3rd to attend the funeral Mass of former Pope Benedict XVI.


According to the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Korea, Chairman Bishop Lee Yong-hoon, Secretary General Father Shin Woo-sik, Cardinal Yeom Su-jeong, and Archbishop Jeong Soon-taek, Archbishop of the Seoul Archdiocese, departed for Rome through Incheon International Airport that afternoon.


They are scheduled to attend the funeral Mass of Benedict XVI, presided over by Pope Francis, at St. Peter's Square on the 5th (local time).


Cardinal Yoo Heung-sik, Prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy of the Holy See, who had been staying in Korea since returning on leave at the end of last November, will also return and attend the funeral Mass.


Bishop Lee's entourage is considering visiting St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, where the body of Benedict XVI was displayed.


On the 7th, a memorial Mass for former Pope Benedict XVI will be jointly celebrated by the Korean Catholic Bishops' Conference and the clergy at Myeongdong Cathedral in Seoul.
