Notice for Detour Traffic via Sindorimgyo Bridge
Complete Closure of Dorim Pedestrian Overpass Due to Tilting Incident... Cause Currently Under Investigation
About 180m Additional Distance Required When Detouring on Foot via Sindorim Bridge
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) fully closed the Dorim pedestrian overpass near Sindorim Station, including the overpass and the bicycle and walking paths underneath, at 1:40 a.m. on the 3rd due to a 'tilting phenomenon.'
Accordingly, the district guided residents using the Dorim pedestrian overpass to detour via the 'Sindorim Bridge' for their safety. It takes about 2 minutes (180m) to detour on foot via the Sindorim Bridge. The bicycle and walking paths under Dorimcheon Stream are fully closed in the affected section, so detour roads such as the Sindorim Bridge should be used.
The district sent a safety alert text message at 5:50 a.m. on the 3rd, advising detours due to the restriction on the Dorim pedestrian overpass. A district official stated, "We will strictly control access to the Dorim pedestrian overpass for residents' safety and promptly identify the cause to ensure safe maintenance."
The Dorim pedestrian overpass, opened at the end of May 2016, is a pedestrian bridge 2.5m wide and 104.6m long connecting Dorim-dong and Sindorim Station.
Gangdong-gu Begins Main Construction for Seoul Subway Line 9 Phase 4 Extension
Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Soo-hee) announced on the 3rd that the 'Seoul Urban Railway Line 9 Phase 4 Extension Project' plan was approved and announced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport ('23.1.3.), and main construction such as excavation will soon commence.
The 'Seoul Urban Railway Line 9 Phase 4 Extension Project' covers a total distance of 4.12 km, starting from Jungang Veterans Hospital Station in Gangdong-gu, passing through Gildong Ecological Park Intersection, Han Young Foreign Language High School, and the Line 5 Godeok Transfer Station, extending to Godeok Gangil 1 District, with a total project cost of 640.8 billion KRW. Four new stations (including one transfer station) will be constructed.
The total project section is divided into three construction zones: ▲Zone 1 'Jungang Veterans Hospital Station to Daemyeong Elementary School Entrance Intersection' (1.348 km, tentative name Gildong Ecological Park Station), ▲Zone 2 'Daemyeong Elementary School Entrance Intersection to Godeok I-Park Apartment' (1.289 km, tentative names Han Young Foreign Language High School Station and Godeok Station), ▲Zone 3 'Godeok I-Park Apartment to Godeok Gangil 1 District' (1.485 km, tentative name Godeok Gangil 1 Station).
Previously, since the announcement of candidate sites for the National Housing and Urban Development Project by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in 2011, the district proactively requested traffic measures. The Phase 4 project was included in the Ministry's Godeok-Gangil National Housing District's wide-area traffic improvement plan in 2012, incorporated into Seoul's urban railway master plan in 2015, passed preliminary feasibility studies in May 2018, approved in April 2020, and the turnkey contract was finalized in June 2020.
Currently, the Godeok, Gangil, and Sangil areas have seen a 1.5-fold population increase compared to 2019 due to large-scale reconstruction and land development projects. Traffic demand is expected to surge once companies complete moving into Godeok Biz Valley in 2024.
Since taking office in the 8th term, Mayor Lee has made active efforts to open the line as early as possible. In September 2022, he met with the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to request the inclusion of GTX-D passing through Gangdong-gu and expedited approval of the Phase 4 extension project. In October, he met with the Seoul Mayor to urge prompt commencement of main construction after project approval.
Additionally, on August 12 last year, a progress briefing was held with the construction consortia for Zones 1 to 3: Daewoo Construction Consortium (Zone 1), Taeyoung Construction Consortium (Zone 2), and Hanshin Engineering Consortium (Zone 3). Gangdong-gu and the contractors reviewed progress and future plans and established a cooperative system for necessary permits and information sharing.
The district also announced smooth progress on the 'Phase 4 Additional Extension Project' from Godeok Gangil 1 District to Gangil-dong (1.25 km), extending Line 9 further.
The additional extension project was confirmed as a new project in the Ministry's 4th National Railway Network Construction Plan (2021?2030) in July 2021 (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Notice No. 2021-936) and is currently underway.
Gyeonggi Province is conducting feasibility studies and basic planning, expected to complete by September 2023. Once the basic plan is approved by the end of 2023, detailed design and construction will follow.
Mayor Lee Soo-hee stated, "To improve residents' top priority traffic issues, we plan to hire additional traffic specialists," adding, "We will establish a dedicated TF team for traffic measures to actively support swift project progress."
He also said, "During the Phase 4 extension project, we will closely cooperate with the Ministry and Seoul City to reflect residents' opinions, such as the addition of Exit 8 at Godeok Transfer Station," and added, "We will strive to successfully promote GTX-D passing through Gangdong-gu and direct connection with Line 5, making Gangdong-gu a transportation hub city encompassing the eastern metropolitan area."
Completion of Community Facility for Residents of Boksunga Village in Geumcheon-gu
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon) announced the completion of the community facility construction for residents of Boksunga Village.
The name 'Boksunga Village' was given to remember the history and memories of the village where peach blossoms bloomed abundantly in the 1970s. Selected in the 2017 Seoul Residential Environment Improvement Project competition, the village has been implementing projects such as road maintenance, CCTV installation for crime prevention, and home repair support to improve the residential environment.
The community facility, part of the Boksunga Village urban regeneration project (located at 149-61 Doksan-dong), began construction in October 2021 and was newly built with a total floor area of 444.67㎡ from basement level 1 to the 4th floor, completed on December 16, 2022.
The basement level 1 houses a restaurant, the 1st floor is a multipurpose room, the 2nd and 3rd floors contain meeting rooms and an auditorium, and the 4th floor is office space.
The community facility is expected to serve as a communication space for resident meetings and activities in an area densely populated with low-rise multi-family houses.
Operation will be managed by the Boksunga Village Residents' Community Operating Committee. An opening ceremony will be held in the first half of the year, with various programs planned for residents.
Geumcheon-gu Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon said, "We expect the Boksunga Village community facility to become a hub facility that enhances residents' convenience and revitalizes the village community."
