Yanolja Analyzes Domestic and International Travel Big Data
International Flight Tickets Increase by 1171% Year-on-Year
Last year, the number of domestic consumers booking overseas travel packages surged by more than 2000% compared to the previous year.
According to the '2022 Travel Behavior of Koreans' survey released on the 3rd by leisure platform company Yanolja, based on domestic (Yanolja) and overseas (Interpark) travel big data, the number of overseas package travelers increased by 2064%, and the number of international flight ticket issuances rose by 1171% compared to the previous year. Additionally, the total distance flown by Interpark customers on international flights was approximately 3.2 billion kilometers. Yanolja explained that this distance is equivalent to more than 80,000 laps around the Earth or about 4,000 round trips between the Earth and the Moon.
The most popular overseas travel destination based on international flight tickets was Japan (20.7%), followed by Vietnam (16.3%), Thailand (11.9%), the United States (9.4%), and the Philippines (8.5%). Package tours also showed strong demand for traditionally favored nearby overseas destinations such as Vietnam (26.9%), Thailand (10.7%), the Philippines (9.3%), Japan (8.2%), and Guam (4.7%).
Domestic travel showed steady growth across all months, indicating a somewhat diminished distinction between peak and off-peak seasons. In contrast, over 80% of overseas travel bookings were concentrated in the second half of the year, when countries began easing entry and exit restrictions.
Year-over-year growth rates by travel duration showed that for domestic trips, 6 nights and 7 days (85%), 5 nights and 6 days (63%), and 4 nights and 5 days (52%) were the highest. For overseas travel, the longest trips of 9 nights and 10 days or more surged by over 1600 times, while short trips such as 2 nights and 3 days (22,228%) and 3 nights and 4 days (16,032%) also saw significant growth, indicating a polarization trend, Yanolja stated.
A Yanolja representative said, "Based on the largest travel big data in the country, we plan to predict customer demand, offer optimized services, and lead leisure trends."
