[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] At around 11:36 PM on the 2nd, a fire broke out at a waste disposal factory in Changnyeong-gun, Gyeongnam, and the fire authorities are conducting firefighting operations.
According to the Gyeongnam Fire Headquarters on the 3rd, from midnight to 3:12 AM on the 3rd, Fire Response Level 1 was issued, and 110 personnel were deployed to the scene.
The fire caused damage to waste materials as well as excavators and equipment, with the fire department estimating property damage of approximately 150 million KRW, but no casualties occurred.
The factory processes waste vinyl and crushes plastic; initial firefighting was completed at 3:06 AM on the 3rd, but due to the large amount of accumulated waste, complete extinguishment is taking some time.
The police and fire authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage based on the statements of the reporter and nearby CCTV footage.
A fire official stated, “The fire is not spreading further, but 300 tons of waste accumulated inside the factory are burning, so it will take quite some time to completely extinguish the fire attached to it.”
