This Year’s QD-OLED Lineup Also Revealed for the First Time
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Pyeonghwa] Samsung Display will unveil the world’s first new concept display, the foldable and stretchable 'Flex Hybrid,' at CES 2023 opening this week. The company will also showcase innovative products that demonstrate the future of OLED, highlighting its technological prowess.
From the 5th to the 8th (local time), Samsung Display will hold an exhibition for clients at CES 2023 in Las Vegas, USA, under the theme "Disruptive Tech Journey Unlocks Sustainable Futures."
At this exhibition, Samsung Display will reveal the 'Flex Hybrid,' which combines two innovative technologies?foldable and slidable?for the first time in the world. It will also display a 17.3-inch large slidable display, which is the prototype of future laptops. The OLED lineup for this year, including 'QD-OLED 2023,' will be exhibited as well. Additionally, a new automotive product called 'Digital Cockpit' will be introduced.
The Flex Hybrid is suitable for futuristic smart mobile devices. The left side of the screen features foldable technology, while the right side applies slidable technology, supporting a 10.5-inch 4:3 ratio screen when unfolded. Pulling the right screen expands it into a 12.4-inch large display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, ideal for enjoying content such as movies or YouTube.
The 17.3-inch large slidable display was a surprise reveal by Samsung Display President Choi Joo-sun at the '2022 Intel Innovation' event last September and will be officially introduced at this CES. This product comes in two concepts: 'Flex Slidable Solo,' which can expand the screen in one direction, and 'Flex Slidable Duet,' which can expand in both directions. It can be used as a 13-14 inch tablet size and expanded to a 17.3-inch screen size. It combines the screen size of a large laptop with portability.
This year’s OLED lineup features the addition of extra-large 77-inch TV QD-OLED and 49-inch ultra-wide monitor QD-OLED to the 55-inch, 65-inch, and 34-inch products introduced by Samsung Display last year. Notably, this year’s products apply AI technology and the latest organic materials, achieving a maximum brightness of over 2000 nits by combining the brightness of each RGB. Power consumption has been reduced by 25% compared to last year’s products.
The new Digital Cockpit, unveiled for the first time at this CES, combines 34-inch and 15.6-inch displays into a horizontally long form factor with a large screen and slim bezels. It can be used as a large entertainment display in autonomous driving mode. The screen curves on both sides to provide the optimal viewing distance for the driver in driving mode.
Meanwhile, Samsung Display has also prepared an exhibition space introducing eco-friendly technologies for a sustainable future. In the OLED Grows Green Zone, it will showcase eco-friendly and low-power technologies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and introduce the glass recycling process, considered an irreplaceable resource in the OLED production process.
