According to the OTT ranking aggregation site 'FlixPatrol', as of the 2nd, 'The Glory' starring Song Hye-kyo ranked 6th worldwide on Netflix. Released on the 30th of last month, 'The Glory' tells the story of Moon Dong-eun (played by Song Hye-kyo), a victim who suffered from school violence in her childhood and takes revenge on the perpetrators and bystanders. This is the first revenge drama written by writer Kim Eun-sook, who penned 'Secret Garden', 'Goblin', and 'Mr. Sunshine'.
'The Glory' ranked first in a total of nine countries including Hong Kong, Singapore, and Indonesia. Additionally, it ranked second in the Philippines and Qatar, and third in Japan and the Maldives.
In particular, 'The Glory' received praise from foreign media immediately after its release, drawing attention. The American economic magazine Forbes said, "Watching the first episode of 'The Glory' is not easy," adding, "It vividly shows that school violence is a cruel act that leaves indelible physical and emotional scars."
It continued, "The work shifts its story direction without warning?from horror to melodrama, then to a murder mystery," and introduced, "This creative script was written by Kim Eun-sook, who also wrote the hit 2016 drama 'Descendants of the Sun' starring Song Hye-kyo."
Tving Original 'Island' Ranks First in the Philippines, Thailand, and More
The Tving original series 'Island', released on the same day as 'The Glory', is also popular. 'Island' is a fantasy action drama depicting the journey of characters fighting against evil that attacks the mysterious island of Jeju, starring Kim Nam-gil, Lee Da-hee, and Cha Eun-woo.
In Korea, it is released through Tving, and overseas, it is released twice every Friday via Amazon Prime Video. 'Island' ranked first in four countries including Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand, and ranked second in Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore.
6 out of 10 Netflix Global Members Watched Korean Content
Thanks to the strength of K-dramas, it was revealed that 6 out of 10 Netflix global members watched Korean content last year. Netflix announced through its official global newsroom on the 29th last year that "60% of global members watched at least one Korean title in 2022."
