[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, emphasized entrepreneurial spirit that seeks opportunities even amid crises during his first economic activity of the new year of the Year of the Black Rabbit (Gyemyo Year) by meeting with local businesspeople.
On the 2nd, Governor Kim attended the '2023 Yongin Chamber of Commerce and Industry New Year's Meeting' held at the Yongin Chamber of Commerce and Industry and said, "Gyeonggi Province will strive to support businesses to the maximum extent in accordance with market principles while minimizing issues of market unfairness and inequity," urging, "Please demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit amid the crisis."
He added, "The Korean economy will surely overcome these difficulties with its infinite potential and excellence. This year will be very challenging, but I believe in the potential of the Korean economy. However, I worry that the DNA for overcoming crises that we possess may gradually weaken," explaining, "The DNA to overcome this crisis includes, first, entrepreneurial spirit, and second, the correct direction, consistency, and predictability of government policies."
He continued, "There is opportunity in crisis. For those who seek opportunities amid the anticipated crises ahead, I hope you fully enjoy those opportunities. Also, those who struggle in the upcoming crises must survive no matter what. If you survive, opportunities will surely come," urging, "Although it varies depending on individual circumstances, industries, business conditions, and situations, please fully demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit and make a greater leap forward."
Governor Kim said, "I am concerned about government policies in various ways. The first priority is to faithfully support entrepreneurs to run their businesses according to market principles, but what should not be overlooked is recognizing potential problems and providing policy considerations," emphasizing, "Gyeonggi Province will do its best to support in accordance with market principles while minimizing unfairness and inequity arising in the market."
He also promised, "Gyeonggi Province has established the Future Growth Industry Bureau to support businesses, and we will create ways to resolve various difficulties to assist you."
At the meeting, about 300 people from various sectors attended, including Seo Seok-hong, Chairman of the Yongin Chamber of Commerce and Industry; National Assembly members Jeong Chun-sook and Lee Tan-hee; Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin; Yoon Won-gyun, Chair of Yongin City Council; provincial assembly members Ji Mi-yeon, Nam Jong-seop, Kim Sun-hee, Kang Woong-cheol, Yoon Jae-young, Lee Seong-ho, Kim Young-min, Lee Young-hee, Jeong Ha-yong, Jeong Ha-yong, Jeon Ja-yong; and businesspeople from Yongin City.
Governor Kim will attend New Year's meetings held at 22 chambers of commerce and industry across the province by the 19th of this month to explain Gyeonggi Province's major economic policy directions and provincial government values.
