[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] On the 3rd, the Ministry of Education announced the results of the '2022 Korea Excellent Educational Facilities Contest.'

This contest has been held annually since 1998 to discover and promote educational facilities that creatively design school spaces and excel in spatial composition and design.

Educational facilities that have been newly built, expanded, reconstructed, or remodeled within the last two years were eligible for evaluation. A judging committee composed of experts in education, design, and construction reviewed materials and videos to select the top three educational facilities (one grand prize and two excellence awards).

The three selected facilities were awarded the Minister of Education Award, concurrently held by the Deputy Prime Minister for Social Affairs, and plaques indicating their status as excellent educational facilities were installed.

The Daegu Yea-ram School, selected as the grand prize winner, received high marks for creating a cultural and artistic space shared by students and local residents. The Busan Myeongji Kkumjaram Kindergarten and the Seoul Kyunghee Girls' High School Main Building, both excellence awardees, were highly evaluated for actively linking interior and exterior spaces and creating diverse and creative spaces based on user feedback, respectively.

Park Sung-min, Director of the Education Autonomy Cooperation and Safety Bureau at the Ministry of Education, stated, “Educational facilities that can flexibly respond to changing education by breaking away from fixed ideas about existing educational environments are necessary,” adding, “We hope that excellent cases that are safe, comfortable, and enhance students' creativity will continue to be discovered and promoted.”
