To Communicate with New Counterpart
Both Sides Likely to Coordinate Schedule Through Consultation
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Foreign Minister Park Jin sent a congratulatory message to Qin Gang, the newly appointed Foreign Minister of China.
This marks the beginning of communication between Minister Park and the new counterpart in the Chinese diplomatic line, and both sides are expected to coordinate schedules for future discussions through consultations.
According to diplomatic circles on the 2nd, Minister Park reportedly sent the congratulatory message recently to celebrate Qin's appointment as Foreign Minister on the 30th of last month.
He also conveyed the intention to cooperate for the continuation of high-level communication between Korea and China. Qin Gang, who joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1988, served as the ministry's spokesperson twice, from 2005 to 2010 and from 2011 to 2014.
Including his service as a counselor, he worked three times at the Embassy in the United Kingdom and was twice reappointed under Minister Wang Yi during his tenure at the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters, earning him the reputation of a 'Europe expert' within the ministry. In July 2021, he was appointed Ambassador to the United States, actively working on the front lines of China's diplomacy toward the U.S.
