[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation (KOMSCO) has set its annual sales target for the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sector at 100 billion KRW this year.

On the 2nd, KOMSCO held a kick-off ceremony presided over by President Ban Jang-sik, announcing three key initiatives: digital transformation of its core business through the establishment of a smart production system, advancement of the ICT platform business, and fostering an innovative culture through a creative and challenging mindset with ‘1 person 1 SSS (Small Success Story).’

President Ban emphasized to employees the importance of digital transformation through the establishment of smart production systems in currency and passport manufacturing sites.

He also proposed contributing to the creation of the ‘K-Hallyu boom’ by overseas sales of BTS commemorative medals this year and planning various commemorative stamps incorporating advanced security technology to usher in a renaissance of stamps.

In particular, President Ban presented a blueprint to firmly establish the ICT sector as a reliable cash cow for KOMSCO by achieving 100 billion KRW in sales this year.

KOMSCO’s ICT sector sales have shown an increasing trend, rising from 50 billion KRW in 2020 to 65 billion KRW in 2021, and 73 billion KRW last year.

Riding this momentum, President Ban is determined to secure a solid growth engine for KOMSCO by achieving the targeted annual sales this year.

To this end, following the full-scale launch of the NFT business based on physical gold last year, KOMSCO plans to diversify its business this year by expanding into digital trust verification services, issuing digital power of attorney, medals, and certificates as NFTs.

Additionally, by expanding the ecosystem of mobile driver’s licenses, KOMSCO aims to establish itself as a comprehensive digital ID service institution.

President Ban said, “When thoughts change, actions change; when actions change, habits change; and when habits change, destiny changes. I will ensure that the proactive mindset of executives and employees and small success stories instill confidence within the organization and serve as a catalyst for other successes, leading to a successful digital transformation.”
