[One Day Walk] Walking Tancheon, a Path No One Has Taken

Tancheon Wetland Ecological Park

Songpa Dullegil is a 21km “circular walking trail” connecting four rivers flowing along the outskirts of Songpa-gu: Seongnaecheon, Jangjicheon, Tancheon, and the Han River.

The Dullegil course consists of four sections: Course 1 Seongnaecheon section (6km), Course 2 Jangjicheon section (4.4km), Course 3 Tancheon section (7.4km), and Course 4 Han River section (3.2km). It is a stretch where waterways and forest paths blend together. Completing all four sections takes over 5 hours.

Today’s course is the joy of walking a path no one has taken before: the Tancheon section. Tancheon derives its name from the old name of Seongnam City, Tanri (炭里). Tanri corresponds to present-day Taepyeong-dong, Sujin-dong, and Sinheung-dong in Seongnam City. Tancheon means “the stream flowing through Tangol.”

The Tancheon trail course runs from the confluence with Jangjicheon, passing through Garak Market and Jamsil Sports Complex, all the way to the Han River. The Tancheon section boasts a beautiful natural landscape, designated as an ecological scenic conservation area. You can enjoy the diverse ecological environment reflecting seasonal changes anytime while strolling.

Rare bird species such as the Little Ringed Plover, Intermediate Egret, and Common Kestrel can also be observed directly. Through the observatory, you can vividly experience seasonal changes in scenery and various natural ecologies. The Tancheon pedestrian road marks distances every 1km (with an increase of 50 kcal per segment). You can know the distance traveled and calories burned from any point. While walking, there are guide signboards with four health phrases (look straight ahead, straighten your waist, widen your stride, walk fast) every 500m. After walking about 7km along the forest and water paths, your mind clears and your body feels lighter. Depending on your stride and walking speed, you can sweat sufficiently. Winter is not cold.
