[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Dooyul] Graduate student Kim Ji-yeon from the Department of Chemistry at UNIST was recognized for her efforts in developing a functional porous material with a new structure on the 29th and received the ‘2022 Korea Talent Award.’
The Korea Talent Award is an award organized by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Student Aid Foundation, established to support outstanding young talents in various fields to grow into the main driving force of Korea.
Previous recipients include figure skater Kim Yuna, archer Kim Je-deok, and novelist Kim Cho-yeop.
Graduate student Kim Ji-yeon is currently working in Professor Choi Won-young’s laboratory at UNIST, developing porous materials called metal-organic frameworks through a geometric approach to structure, striving to accelerate the synthesis of new materials.
Kim Ji-yeon said, “I am grateful to my professor who guided me to conduct research independently on an interesting topic, my lab seniors and juniors who worked together, and my parents and family who provided unwavering support and strong encouragement. I will continue to grow as a next-generation scientist through more challenging research.”
Kim Ji-yeon, who entered the integrated master’s and doctoral program in the Department of Chemistry in 2017, was selected for the Global Ph.D. Fellowship in 2018, receiving support for academic research activities.
She enhanced her research capabilities by publishing papers as first author and co-first author in Chem and Matter, sister journals of the international academic journal Cell, and received awards for excellent presentations at various academic conferences.
Among the 100 outstanding young talents selected for the Korea Talent Award, including 50 high school students and 50 university students and young adults, the Prime Minister’s Award, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Award, and scholarship certificates are presented.
