Gyeonggi-do Fire Department Conducts Fire Safety Inspections at Multi-use Facilities and Traditional Markets Ahead of Seol Promotional poster for the "Safer Gyeonggi Workplaces" three major campaigns promoted this year by the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters is conducting fire safety inspections of multi-use facilities and on-site guidance by fire station chiefs for fire-vulnerable targets in the province until the 31st of this month, ahead of Seollal, the largest traditional holiday of the nation.

By the 13th of this month, fire safety inspectors from fire stations will carry out unannounced fire safety inspections at 9,255 locations including multi-use facilities and lodging facilities, as well as 163 traditional markets across the province. The inspection targets include fire facilities, closure or blockage of emergency exits, and whether evacuation routes are obstructed. The Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters plans to complete corrections of any deficiencies before the Seollal holiday.

Along with this, the 'Fire Safety The 3 Major Campaign' will be launched to create a safe workplace, and on-site safety consulting called Hyeonmun Hyeondap (現問現答) will be conducted. The safety consulting will distribute promotional materials such as posters for 'Support for Residential Fire Facilities' at foreigner accommodations and stickers stating 'Emergency Exit is the Door of Life.' Additionally, next month, a meeting with CEOs of aging factory facilities will be promoted under the supervision of fire station chiefs.

Furthermore, fire-vulnerable targets such as factories, logistics warehouses, and construction sites will be selected, and fire station center chiefs or higher executives will visit the sites at least once a week to remove fire risk factors in advance. They will also visit fire-vulnerable residential facilities such as residential vinyl houses to provide guidance on winter heating safety rules, fire alarms, fire extinguishers, and support and usage of residential fire facilities.

The Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters will also conduct education and publicity using safety manuals for the three major winter fire risk items: electric heaters, electric heating wires, and wood boilers, and will educate on the mandatory installation and usage of residential fire facilities.

Cho Sun-ho, head of the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters, stated, "All 35 fire stations in the province have entered special fire alert duty and established a 24-hour situation management system to operate a seamless on-site response system," adding, "We will make every effort to ensure that residents can have a safe and happy holiday."

Meanwhile, according to the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters, from 2018 to this year, during the Seollal holiday period over the past five years, 512 fires occurred in the Gyeonggi area, resulting in 4 deaths, 24 injuries, totaling 28 casualties, and property damage worth approximately 7.4 billion KRW.
