Baegamsan Sunrise Event and More: A Gathering for Unity and Cohesion Among County Residents
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, reflected on the eventful year of 2022, the Year of the Black Tiger, and announced on the 2nd that it held a New Year's Eve bell-ringing ceremony and a New Year's sunrise event to welcome the hopeful 2023, the Year of the Black Rabbit.
According to the county, on the morning of January 1, the first day of the Year of the Black Rabbit, about 300 residents participated in a safety prayer ritual and sunrise event at the summit of Baegamsan Mountain (621m above sea level), wishing for the residents' hopes and happiness, as well as the development and prosperity of the county administration.
The sunrise event, hosted by the Hamyang Lions Club, began with County Governor Jin Byeong-yeong serving as the chief ritual officer, Deputy Chairman of the County Council Jeong Hyeon-cheol as the assistant ritual officer, and Hamyang Lions Club President No Byeong-su as the concluding ritual officer, praying for the peace and well-being of all residents through the safety prayer ritual.
Then, while watching the majestic first sunrise of the new year, participants delivered hopeful messages for the new year, cut the traditional steamed rice cake (sirutteok), enjoyed the sunrise, made wishes for the new year, and through three cheers for the county’s development and residents’ well-being, created a moment of unity and solidarity among the residents.
In particular, all attendees gathered to take commemorative photos holding a banner that read, “Hamyang shining with fairness and communication, wishing for a hopeful 2023!” along with 23 rabbit dolls commemorating the Year of the Rabbit 2023.
Governor Jin expressed his hope through a message, saying, “I thank everyone who has been with us during the 8th elected administration, launched last year with the aspiration for a Hamyang true to itself through new changes.” He added, “I hope that 2023 will be a hopeful year in which the vision and goals of ‘Strong Leap Forward, Hamyang Opening Together,’ which we have pursued tirelessly, will blossom as hope in your lives and become a new opportunity for challenge and growth for all of us.”
After the New Year's event, participants shared New Year's rice cake soup and exchanged well-wishes at the Dosan Village Hall located at the foot of Baegamsan Mountain.
Earlier, from 11 p.m. on December 31 to 12:30 a.m. on January 1, the county held a New Year's Eve bell-ringing ceremony at the county bell pavilion, with about 300 participants including representatives from various sectors of the community and hopeful residents.
