YG Releases 'G-Dragon - Guerrilla Desk: G Division' Video
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] G-Dragon (34, Kwon Jiyong), leader of the group 'Big Bang,' announced plans to release a solo album for the first time in six years.
On the 1st, G-Dragon shared an update in the video released by his agency YG Entertainment titled 'G-DRAGON - GUERRILLA DESK : G_Division,' saying, "I would like to take this opportunity to say that I will work hard in 2023. I plan to meet you through various activities. I am also preparing an album."
Since releasing his solo album 'Kwon Jiyong' under his real name in June 2017, G-Dragon has focused solely on group activities.
In the video, G-Dragon opened up, "It’s been a long time since I last met with fans like this. I haven’t communicated much during that time. I thought you might be curious about my recent status and plans for next year (this year), so I wanted to greet you."
In April last year, G-Dragon made a comeback with Big Bang and released 'Still Life.' The album dominated major domestic music charts by ranking first and received positive reviews from both the public and critics, including ranking 73rd on Rolling Stone’s 'Top 100 Songs of the Year.'
He reflected, "I wasn’t able to meet fans or appear on stage, but I spent each day meaningfully in my own way, resting and recharging."
Hinting at active plans for this year, he said, "Thank you for your hard work in 2022. I hope you stay even healthier this year and receive lots of blessings. Let’s run vigorously again. Let’s meet with good news."
Meanwhile, last month, all Big Bang members except G-Dragon left YG Entertainment after Taeyang and Daesung chose not to renew their contracts. Following T.O.P, who became independent earlier last year, Taeyang and Daesung also left the company after their exclusive contracts with YG expired. Taeyang moved to The Black Label, a YG affiliate led by producer Teddy, YG’s creative director. Daesung is reportedly searching for a new agency.
YG Entertainment is currently negotiating a solo contract with G-Dragon.
