Gwangju Gwangsan-gu 'Sang Bok Teojyeotne' Achieves 60 External Organization Awards This Year

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Byung-gyu) achieved remarkable results in external institutional evaluations this year.


On the 30th, Gwangsan-gu announced that it won a total of 60 awards in evaluations conducted by central government ministries and Gwangju Metropolitan City.


It secured a record-high amount of 17.3 billion KRW in special grants, special subsidies, and prize money.


Recently, it received the Presidential Citation at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s ‘2022 Korea Housing Welfare Expo,’ and recorded 31 awards in evaluations hosted by central government ministries, including the Grand Prize in local government childcare policy evaluation and the Prime Minister’s Citation in disaster management evaluation.


It also stood out in city-led evaluations. It won first place among autonomous districts in various fields such as welfare, safety, and administration, including medical aid project evaluation, gender equality policy evaluation, informatization capacity enhancement evaluation, and national safety transition intensive safety inspection evaluation, receiving the grand prize and a total of 18 awards.


In the ‘2022 Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index Analysis’ hosted by the Korea Institute of Public Administration, it ranked 2nd among autonomous districts nationwide, and also achieved excellent results in 11 external institution and organization evaluations, including winning the grand prize in the blog category at the ‘Social iAward 2022.’


Looking in detail at the awards for excellent institutions, there were 28 in health and welfare, 17 in administration and autonomy, 10 in urban safety and environment, and 5 in economy, jobs, and agriculture.


In particular, along with 1.1 billion KRW in prize money, it secured the largest and record-high amount among the five autonomous districts of Gwangju with a total of 10.8 billion KRW (24% share of autonomous district) from the ‘2022 Gwangju Metropolitan City Special Adjustment Grant,’ and additionally secured 5.4 billion KRW from the ‘Ministry of the Interior and Safety Special Subsidy,’ thus creating momentum to resolve regional pending projects.


Park Byung-gyu, Mayor of Gwangsan-gu, said, “This year’s excellent award achievements are very meaningful results that prove the autonomous capacity of Gwangsan-gu, created together by citizen participation and public officials,” and added, “Next year, we will do our best to promote policies beneficial to citizens and produce results that citizens can feel.”
