The Intelligent Robot Innovation Sharing University Project Group (Director Park Tae-joon), hosted by Hanyang University ERICA Campus, announced that it held the "Ratton Competition" for three days from the 26th to the 28th at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul.

Ratton is an abbreviation of Line Tracer Hackathon, a basic robot education and competition where participants program robots to follow various lines within a limited time to complete given missions.

In this Ratton, 30 students from various majors interested in basic robot production from Chosun University, Korea Polytechnic University, and Hanyang University ERICA were publicly recruited to compete in mission performance using robots they built themselves.

On the first day of Ratton, advanced studies were conducted including △basic Ratton study △Arduino basics and C language study △usage of various sensors and motors △basic algorithm learning.

The second day involved △hardware production △implementation of the first Ratton coding algorithm △testing of RGB sensor recognition and illuminance sensors, continuing late into the night.

On the final third day, activities included △implementation and testing of the second Ratton coding algorithm △debugging and code refactoring △final demonstration △and the awards ceremony.

As a result of Ratton, the robot of the "Defense ICT Team" (Hanyang University ERICA’s Choi Jin-sung, Hwang Jun-ha, Han Seung-woo) arrived at the arena the fastest and won first place, while the "Electromechanical Team" (Hanyang University ERICA’s Oh Yu-bin, Jung Chan-young, Jang Hee-chan) and the "ICT Mechanical Team" (Hanyang University ERICA’s Park Joo-eun, Choi Min-hyuk, and Chosun University’s Lee Yong-soo) took second place.

Additionally, third place was awarded to the "Electronic Engineering Team" (Hanyang University ERICA’s Kwon Hyun-ho, Kwon Hyung-jin, Seo Jin-han) and the "Mecha AI Robot Team" (Korea Polytechnic University’s Kim Sae-rom, Yoon Jung-soo, Park Seung-bin).

Professor Kang Min-sung of Hanyang University ERICA, who oversaw this Ratton, said, “We planned this three-day line tracer hackathon to help non-robotics majors and beginner-level majors improve their capabilities in building intelligent robots.” He added, “Next year, we plan to promote participation by various majors and many students through joint hosting with the Innovation Sharing University Consortium, including AI, Big Data, and Next-Generation Semiconductors, which participated in the Co-Week Academy, to cultivate self-directed learning abilities.”

Meanwhile, the Intelligent Robot Innovation Sharing University Project is a digital new technology talent nurturing innovation sharing university project supported by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea. It aims to eliminate educational disparities between regions and universities and establish a national-level core talent nurturing system in advanced fields. Hanyang University ERICA Campus is the lead university of the Intelligent Robot Innovation Sharing University Consortium, conducting the project for six years from 2021 to 2026 together with Kwangwoon University, Pukyong National University, Sangmyung University, Youngjin College, Chosun University, and Korea Polytechnic University.
