Seongbuk-gu Tongjang Association Donates Warm Winter Fund

The Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) Tongjang Association (Chair Kim Hee-ja) generously donated 2 million KRW on the 28th as a warm winter fund, warming the cold year-end season. Despite the local economy freezing due to COVID-19, the Tongjang Association donated 1.5 million KRW last year and increased the amount to 2 million KRW this year.

At the fund delivery ceremony held in the mayor’s office, Kim Hee-ja, Chair of the Seongbuk-gu Tongjang Association, who attended with other executives, stated, “Mayor Lee Seung-ro often said that the tongjang (neighborhood leaders) are the capillaries of Seongbuk-gu administration, and tongjangs, who are well-connected in the community, could not be absent in creating a warm community,” explaining the reason for this donation.

In March, the Seongbuk-gu Tongjang Association was the first to lead the donation of 2 million KRW to support wildfire victims in Samcheok, Seongbuk-gu’s sister city, which became the starting point for Seongbuk-gu to raise a total of 124 million KRW in donations.

Mayor Lee Seung-ro of Seongbuk-gu expressed his gratitude, saying, “I wish I could give a cash gift to the tongjangs who have worked hard not only to identify vulnerable groups but also to conduct two elections and a full resident registration survey this year,” and added, “The tongjangs are truly the top contributors to building a warm welfare community in Seongbuk.”
