There is no age limit to starting exercise. If you are in your 40s now, you are part of the generation that neglects exercise the most and has yet to fully realize how important it is. If you are 80 years old and want to be able to walk on your own, use the bathroom independently, or take a bath by yourself until the end of your life, you need to start walking from now on.
Dr. Oh Han-jin said, "As people age and become frail, they may end up in nursing hospitals and require care from others even for basic needs, which greatly diminishes human dignity. To avoid experiencing this period for a long time, you must start exercising immediately, learn how to exercise properly, and understand that exercise can save your life."
He urged the government to continuously inform and teach the public about the necessity of walking exercises. While everyone says "You should exercise," he emphasized that it is more important to first convey that "We need to exercise to avoid illness," and "A life with exercise is different from one without." He also stressed that the government and local authorities should teach people how to walk with the correct posture, explain how often and how far they should walk, and create walking courses or distances that are easy and enjoyable for people to use consistently.
Dr. Oh said, "It is better for the government to help citizens live healthily than to bear and spend enormous medical expenses. When the body is healthy, the mind and spirit become healthier, people pay more attention to those around them, and as a result, society becomes healthier."
