Perspective view of Suseo Station on the Samsung~Dongtan section of the Metropolitan Area Express Railway (GTX) Line A / Provided by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport
[Asia Economy Reporter Noh Kyung-jo] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the afternoon of the 29th that it held a tunnel breakthrough ceremony for the Samsung~Dongtan section of the Metropolitan Area Express Train (GTX) Line A at Suseo Station in Seoul.
The GTX-A Samsung~Dongtan section has a total length of 39.8 km, connecting SR Dongtan Station to Yongin Station, Seongnam Station, Suseo Station, and Samsung Station. With a total project cost of 2.069 trillion KRW, a deep tunnel of about 9 km will be newly constructed from Samsung Station to the connection point of the metropolitan high-speed railway, and systems such as GTX signaling and communication will be installed on about 30 km of the shared metropolitan high-speed railway section. Five stations, including Suseo Station, will be built.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to open the Suseo~Dongtan section smoothly in the first half of 2024, following the delivery of GTX-A vehicles on the 19th and this tunnel breakthrough. Upon opening, travel time, which previously took about 1 hour and 20 minutes by existing public transportation, is expected to be reduced by more than one hour.
At the breakthrough ceremony, Eo Myeong-so, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, attended and praised the efforts of the construction personnel. Vice Minister Eo said, "The launch and effects of the GTX service on the Suseo~Dongtan section are expected to create synergy for the future promotion of GTX B and C line projects," adding, "We will do our best to ensure that GTX opens successfully according to the target schedule."
He urged the construction personnel to "make a habit of following safety rules in daily life to ensure a safe work environment without accidents."
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is promoting the GTX-A construction project with the goal of opening the Suseo~Dongtan section in the first half of next year, the Paju~Seoul Station section in the second half of 2024, and the entire Paju~Dongtan section by 2028.
