Jeongeup-si Selected as 'Development Institution' in Waste Treatment Facility Operation Evaluation Report

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk announced on the 29th that it was selected as a developing institution among 97 landfill facilities nationwide (with a capacity of 200,000㎥ or more) in the '2022 Waste Treatment Facility (Landfill Facility Sector) Operation Performance Evaluation.'

The operation performance evaluation of waste treatment facilities, hosted by the Ministry of Environment, comprehensively assesses one year of operational performance in terms of environmental aspects, technicality, economics, safety, and governance.

The evaluation was conducted across 659 sites nationwide, covering six sectors: incineration, landfill, household resources, food waste, combustible waste fuelization, and organic waste biogas facilities.

Jeongeup City's metropolitan landfill was selected as a developing institution in the landfill facility sector due to a two-grade improvement in performance compared to the previous year.

The Jeongeup metropolitan landfill minimized pollutant generation through efficient management of the landfill facility and significantly reduced leachate through systematic covering (soil covering) and compaction work.

Additionally, by meeting groundwater and other water quality standards, it received higher evaluations in environmental and technical aspects compared to the previous year, leading to its selection as a developing institution.

A city official stated, "As a result of our best efforts to modernize landfill and covering equipment and to operate and manage the landfill facility stably, we achieved good results. We will continue to manage more efficiently and systematically to become the best facility."
