"'Double the previous size' 32-inch touch screen equipped"
"Linked with 'Google Photos'... easy upload and download"
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The era of "the bigger, the better" has arrived for refrigerator monitors as well. Samsung Electronics plans to unveil a new Bespoke refrigerator model with a screen twice as large as before at CES 2023, the world's largest home appliance exhibition, next month.
On the 29th, Samsung Electronics announced that it will reveal the new 'Bespoke Refrigerator Family Hub Plus' equipped with a large touchscreen at CES 2023, held from the 5th of next month (local time) in Las Vegas, USA.
Family Hub attracted attention from its launch in 2016 by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies into refrigerators. It offers services related to entertainment, family communication, cooking, and smart home management.
As its functions diversified, large monitors typically attached to premium TVs were also installed in refrigerators. With increasing consumer demand for larger screens, Samsung applied a 32-inch Full HD touchscreen, about twice as wide as the previous 21.5-inch model, to enhance customer immersion.
The 'Samsung TV Plus' service, which offers free viewing of over 190 TV channels in the U.S. and more than 80 in Korea, has been upgraded to be enjoyed in 'PIP (Picture-in-Picture) mode.' Users can search for recipes while watching music channels and control home appliances while watching the news.
The 32-inch screen is optimized for vertical format videos provided by major social media platforms such as YouTube. Content like SmartThings Cooking service videos and artworks from the 'Bespoke Atelier' app can also be vividly enjoyed on the 32-inch screen.
Multiple devices connected to SmartThings can be checked at a glance through a big widget. It not only allows effective device control but also makes the six major services of 'SmartThings Home Life'?energy, cooking, air care, home care, pet care, and clothing care?intuitive and easy to use.
In particular, the built-in SmartThings hub enables control of various companies' lighting, blinds, switches, motion sensors, and door sensors through the Family Hub, making it attractive. This means the refrigerator can be used as a home IoT hub.
The new product can be linked not only with the existing 'OneDrive' but also with the 'Google Photos' cloud. Google Photos users can download mobile Google Photos pictures to the Family Hub regardless of device type or share content created on the Family Hub to Google Photos on mobile devices.
In the U.S., the 'Amazon Your Essentials' service has been added, allowing frequently purchased items to be displayed on the home screen widget and ordered with a single click.
Lee Junhwa, Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Home Appliance Business Division, said, "The newly introduced 'Bespoke Refrigerator Family Hub' by Samsung Electronics offers an expanded experience with its larger screen," adding, "Family Hub will lead innovation and evolution of refrigerators by reflecting changing consumer usage patterns."
