Girls Who Cut Their Long Hair Short for Pediatric Cancer Patients

Changwon City Boys and Girls Choir Graduates Donate Hair

Members of the Changwon City Children's Choir in Gyeongnam willingly cut their hair short for children with pediatric cancer.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] The Changwon City Children’s Choir in Gyeongnam willingly cut their hair short for pediatric cancer patients as the members graduated.

This reflected the members’ wish to donate their hair, which they had grown for the choir’s performances, to pediatric cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy rather than cutting it off meaninglessly.

Among the graduating members, five students?Kim Si-eun (2nd year, Jinhae Sinhang Middle School), Han Seung-hee (3rd year, Banlim Middle School), Kim Min-chae (2nd year, Gusan Middle School), Lee Da-yeon (1st year, Bansong Girls’ Middle School), and Jeon Chae-won (6th year, Changwon Namsan Elementary School)?decided to donate their hair to the “Eomeona” campaign headquarters. “Eomeona” is an abbreviation for sharing hair for young cancer patients.

Graduating member Kim Si-eun said, “It feels awkward to cut off hair that I have grown for several years all at once, but I am happy thinking that it will help younger friends who are fighting illness without hair.”

The Changwon City Children’s Choir’s hair donation has been a tradition since 2018, and last year, three graduating members also donated their hair.

Jo Myung-rae, the 2nd Deputy Mayor of Changwon Special City, said, “It must not have been easy to donate the long hair that was grown with effort, but I am truly proud and impressed by the city children’s choir members who practiced this small act of sharing. Knowing and practicing how happy sharing is as they graduate represents the future of Changwon, and I hope a future full of dreams and hope unfolds before the members who are about to start a new chapter.”
