Opening of ‘KTX-Eum’ between Cheongnyangni Station and Haeundae, Busan in 2024 and Establishment of a Transportation Hub with 11 Future Lines Including GTX-B and C Lines
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung), which will become the center of metropolitan transportation with the opening of the ‘KTX-Eum’ connecting Haeundae, Busan and Cheongnyangni in 2024, is undergoing a major redevelopment to be reborn.
In 2024, the ‘KTX-Eum’ running between Haeundae, Busan and Cheongnyangni will open, followed by the GTX-C line in 2028 and the GTX-B line in 2030. After the currently underway Gangbuk Transversal Line and Myeonmok Line are also opened, Cheongnyangni Station will firmly establish itself as the hub of metropolitan transportation.
Accordingly, the Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to strengthen the transportation network of Cheongnyangni Station as a transportation hub through which 11 lines will pass in the future by establishing the basic plan for the Cheongnyangni Station Metropolitan Transfer Center and linking it with the ‘Urban Strategic Plan for Creating a New Landmark at Cheongnyangni Station’ scheduled for 2023.
Dongdaemun-gu expects that the development of the transportation network centered on Cheongnyangni Station will accelerate the improvement of the surrounding environment, and plans to promote a large-scale redevelopment project accordingly.
Major Redevelopment for a Pleasant Dongdaemun-gu Including Reconstruction of Miju Apartments and Crackdown on Street Vendors
The designation plan for the redevelopment zone, which includes the reconstruction of Cheongnyangni Miju Apartments into 10 buildings with 1,370 households after delays caused by road issues passing through the apartment complex, passed the Seoul City Urban Planning Committee on the 21st. This redevelopment plan also reflects public contribution plans such as a public pedestrian passage and roads and parks to ensure public accessibility for easy access to Cheongnyangni Station near the complex.
Starting with the reconstruction of Miju Apartments, the district plans to create a pleasant and clean Dongdaemun-gu by cracking down on about 260 street vendors around Wangsanno and Hongneung-ro near Cheongnyangni Station and improving traditional markets.
