[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Hyundai Rotem announced on the 27th that it has obtained green technology certification for its electric train electric braking eco-friendly technology, 'Zero Speed Regenerative Braking of the Propulsion Control Device.' Trains equipped with this technology can save 917 MWh of power consumption annually compared to existing trains.

Technologies that minimize greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions receive green technology certification from the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT). The Zero Speed regenerative braking technology continues to use regenerative braking until the train comes to a complete stop. Hyundai Rotem completed patent registration last year.

Hyundai Rotem applied this technology to 214 cars of Seoul Line 2 trains delivered in 2019. It has the effect of reducing power consumption by 917 MWh annually compared to existing trains. This is equivalent to planting more than 60,000 pine trees annually.

A Hyundai Rotem official said, "We plan to apply Zero Speed regenerative braking to GTX-A trains and verify it during the test run period," adding, "We will pursue ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management, including research and development of eco-friendly railway technologies."
