'Shuka World' YouTuber Jeon Seok-jae Selected as Capital Market Person of the Year

[Asia Economy Reporter Son Seon-hee] Jeon Seok-jae (43), who runs the YouTube channel "Shuka World," was selected as the "2022 Capital Market Person of the Year," the Korea Exchange announced on the 26th.

The Exchange held a related awards ceremony at its headquarters in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, on the same day. Now in its second year, the "Capital Market Person of the Year" is an award system established by the Exchange to recognize individuals who have contributed to the development of the domestic capital market and financial investment industry over the past year, including capital market innovation, expanding the investor base, and establishing a sound investment culture. After recommendations from member companies, related organizations, the Exchange’s press corps and employees, and voting by general investors, five candidates are shortlisted, and the final winner is selected through a survey conducted by a professional research institution. Last year, Choi Hyun-man, chairman of Mirae Asset Securities, was selected as the inaugural recipient.

Jeon is the operator of the YouTube channel "Shuka World," which has approximately 2.5 million subscribers. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Seoul National University and a master's degree in financial engineering from Yonsei University Graduate School of Economics. He previously worked at eBest Investment & Securities and Samsung Asset Management.

The Exchange stated, "He contributed to expanding the investor base by explaining various capital market topics in an easy-to-understand manner for general investors," and added, "He raised awareness about the risks of trading structures before the stablecoin incident, sounding the alarm on speculative trading culture, and greatly contributed to spreading a healthy investment culture," as the reason for his selection.
