No Helmet Worn... License Suspension Level
Police "1 Minor Injury, 2 Are Okay"
A high school student who was riding an electric scooter without a helmet and without a license collided with a city bus, injuring a peer who was riding with her. Upon being apprehended, it was found that they had also been drinking alcohol.
On the 26th, the Yeonsu Police Station in Incheon announced that they are investigating high school student A (18) on charges of drunk driving and unlicensed driving under the Road Traffic Act.
A is suspected of riding a shared electric scooter while intoxicated and causing a collision with a city bus on a road in Songdo-dong, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, at around 10:49 PM the previous day.
There were three people in total on the electric scooter driven by A, including two peers riding along, and among them, B (17) sustained facial injuries and was transported by the 119 emergency medical service to a nearby hospital for treatment. The police who arrived at the scene and conducted a breathalyzer test found A’s blood alcohol concentration to be within the license suspension range (0.03% or higher but less than 0.08%).
A did not have a driver’s license that permits riding an electric scooter, and none of the three riders, including A, were wearing helmets. Although personal mobility devices like electric scooters are allowed to carry only one person, A and the others violated this passenger capacity regulation.
A police official stated, "B’s injuries are not severe, and the other two riders, including A, were not injured," adding, "We plan to investigate A regarding the reasons for unlicensed drunk driving."
