[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Pyeonghwa] SK Siltron announced on the 26th that it will carry out the eco-friendly campaign "Green ON" as part of the "Reduce Carbon, Recycle Resources" campaign jointly conducted by SK Group and the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, aimed at practicing resource circulation.

Green ON is being conducted in cooperation with social enterprises in Gumi, Gyeongbuk, where SK Siltron's headquarters are located. The campaign involves upcycling discarded resources into products that are then provided to the elderly and children in the Gumi area.

To this end, since July of this year, SK Siltron has collected over 4,100 unused tumblers, eco-bags, and discarded umbrellas from its employees. The tumblers are upcycled into air-purifying companion tree kits, the eco-bags into pouches, and the discarded umbrellas into insulated bags.

In particular, the discarded umbrellas are reborn as insulated bags and are also used in social contribution activities to support meals for vulnerable groups in the Gumi area. Discarded umbrellas are a representative waste material with low recycling rates, and the amount discarded worldwide each year is enough to build 25 Eiffel Towers.

An SK Siltron official said, “Next year, we plan to expand the items and scale of the Green ON campaign in cooperation with Gumi City,” adding, “We will prepare various activities so that any citizen of Gumi can easily participate in upcycling.”
