Dr. Oh Strongly Criticizes Participant's Husband with "Child Abuse Education"

[Asia Economy Culture Young Intern Reporter] Child psychology expert Dr. Oh Eun-young recently addressed criticism regarding her alleged neglect of a father's excessive physical contact in the MBC variety show 'Oh Eun-young Report - Hell of Marriage,' stating, "It is an extremely distressing feeling to be portrayed as someone who neglects child sexual abuse."

On the 23rd, Dr. Oh released an official statement saying, "I have seen many people worry and become angry after watching the recent broadcast," and added, "I also understand very well that this issue is very important, especially concerning the welfare and safety of the child."

She continued, "There were parts where my opinions were not sufficiently reflected in the broadcast, resulting in messages conveyed differently from my intentions, so I would like to clarify a few points."

She said, "I have long been firmly opposed to corporal punishment, and as I have stated in the books I have written, my stance on child abuse, violence, sexual harassment, and sexual violence is very resolute. These are absolutely unacceptable and non-negotiable."

She added, "I strongly pointed out to the participant's husband that regardless of any good intentions, 'it is absolutely unacceptable to touch a child's body carelessly or engage in problematic behaviors against the child's will.'"

Furthermore, she revealed, "The participant's husband had been reported for child abuse by his wife due to shouting at the child and throwing objects, and had received educational measures from the police," and said, "Therefore, during the filming, I spent a lot of time emphasizing repeatedly, as an extension of child abuse education, that 'forced physical contact that the child dislikes should not be done,' providing many educational critiques and explanations."

Dr. Oh stated, "Subsequently, there were significant changes in the husband's attitude toward the child. However, in the editing process to condense over five hours of footage into 80 minutes, many of these details were inevitably omitted. I feel extremely distressed about being portrayed as someone who neglects child sexual abuse."

Regarding the part where she called the stepfather who forcibly made physical contact despite the stepdaughter's refusal a "lonely person" and "pitiful," she clarified, "I was referring to the husband's childhood as pitiful," emphasizing, "It was not an attempt to justify his current problematic behavior by linking it to his past misfortunes."

Dr. Oh especially stressed, "My greatest concern right now is the child," and said, "I will actively support any areas where I can help so that the child can grow well. I appreciate the warm interest and concern from viewers toward the child. To ensure there are no issues, the production team of Oh Eun-young Report and I will continue to monitor the situation closely. Additionally, I will deeply reflect once again on the sharp criticisms and advice."

Meanwhile, the husband explained that his actions were "expressions of affection toward his daughter," but the program's website and bulletin board were flooded with accusations of child sexual abuse.

The husband is currently under police investigation. The Women's and Youth Investigation Unit of the Jeonbuk Provincial Police Agency has received a report of child sexual abuse against the husband and has begun a pre-indictment investigation.

MBC's 'Hell of Marriage' stated, "We focused solely on analyzing the couple's issues and failed to carefully review scenes that could cause viewers concern," and added, "Considering the possibility of psychological difficulties for the child, we plan to provide professional examination and treatment assistance together with Dr. Oh Eun-young."
