Lee Jae-myung "Won Administration's Rogue Sword Dance Will Not Be Overlooked"... Direct Confrontation with Prosecution

"Reopening Even Cases of No Charges"
Supreme Council Members Unite in Criticism of Prosecutors' Investigation

[Asia Economy Reporters Park Jun-yi and Geum Bo-ryeong] Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who received a summons from the prosecution, confronted head-on, stating, "I will not stand by and watch Yoon Seok-yeol administration's reckless sword dance." The Supreme Council members also united in criticizing the prosecution's investigative offensive and came out to defend Lee.

At the on-site Supreme Council meeting held at the Gangwon Provincial Party Office on the 23rd, Lee said, "At such a grave moment, the Yoon government has once again embarked on destroying the opposition party. Since no desired answers come out no matter how much they dig, they have now even brought up cases that were previously cleared of charges and summoned me again." On the 22nd, the prosecution notified Lee of a summons over allegations related to Seongnam FC sponsorship funds.

On that day, he strongly criticized the prosecution's recent investigative behavior and issued a stern warning. Lee pointed out, "Investigations targeting the previous administration, such as the West Sea shooting incident and the Wolseong nuclear power plant case, are also accelerating," calling it "the reality of a prosecutorial dictatorship government that has no regard for people's livelihoods."

He added, "We will stand firm against the destruction of the opposition and fabricated investigations, fight, and win," emphasizing, "If you fabricate nonexistent crimes with temporarily borrowed power and obsess over crimes that exist or do not exist, you will inevitably face harsh judgment."

On the same day, Supreme Council members also lent their support. Supreme Council member Jeong Cheong-rae said, "The summons notification to Leader Lee is ill-intentioned, malicious, the content is shabby, and the attitude is extremely rude," adding, "The prosecution, which is reopening investigations that have been cleared for years and attempting to summon the leader of the main opposition party by fax without prior consent, where else has there been a worse prosecution than this?"

Supreme Council member Park Chan-dae also pointed out, "Despite mobilizing over 60 prosecutors from eight departments and investigating for more than a year, the prosecution has not presented a single piece of evidence to prove the charges," criticizing, "Like juggling cards, if nothing comes out from the Daejang-dong investigation, they move to Seongnam FC; if nothing comes out from the Seongnam FC investigation, they leak suspect facts about the Ssangbangwool case and repeat media play." He urged, "Stop obsessing over Leader Lee and focus on the Deutsche Motors stock manipulation case, where the criminal charges and evidence are clear."
