Busking Performance to Build Consensus at Gwangbok-ro City Spot on the 23rd from 6 to 7 PM
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Busan City will hold a busking performance to support the bid for the 2030 Busan World Expo at Gwangbok-ro City Spot from 6 PM to 7 PM on the 23rd, in connection with the 2022 Gwangbok-ro Winter Light Tree Festival.
The Gwangbok-ro Winter Light Tree Festival is Busan's representative winter festival that offers unique attractions each year with distinctive themes and designs. This year, it features a lighting ceremony, light sculpture exhibitions, cultural performances, and citizen participation programs, with the large main tree installed at City Spot being particularly impressive.
This performance will be conducted in collaboration with Busan-based indie bands composed of young artists, ‘Kongbro’ and ‘Burning Soda.’ ‘Kongbro’ and ‘Burning Soda’ will deliver lively performances with acoustic vocals, fostering public support for the 2030 Busan World Expo bid and directly conveying messages to spread the purpose and enthusiasm of the event.
In front of the large tree that looks like stacked gift boxes, Christmas carols and popular songs related to the 2030 Busan World Expo will be rearranged and performed, expected to add excitement to the 2030 Busan World Expo bid during this Winter Light Tree Festival.
Along the street of City Spot where the performance takes place, light sculptures will be exhibited under the theme ‘Street of Victory.’ This will imply to citizens and tourists passing through that Busan, South Korea, will surely ‘win’ the competition to host the 2030 World Expo.
Various events will also be prepared. As a special Christmas event, if attendees answer the World Expo quiz conducted by the MC at the performance site correctly, they will receive a small souvenir directly from the organizer. Additionally, 300 shopping bags will be produced and distributed free of charge to citizens watching the busking performance.
The shopping bags provided on this day were produced in collaboration with Seo-gu Office, using streetlight banners that were used to promote the 2030 Busan World Expo bid BTS concert held on October 15.
This embodies the significance of hosting the Busan World Expo, which seeks a sustainable future under the theme ‘The Great Transformation of the World, Voyage Toward a Better Future.’
Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, “To secure the 2030 Busan World Expo bid, I will continue to actively engage on-site next year to spread the enthusiasm for the bid,” adding, “Especially since next year is a crucial year when the host city for the 2030 World Expo will be decided, we will do our best to secure support countries for the 2030 Busan World Expo bid, reflecting the passionate desire of our citizens.”
The city is preparing various citizen participation campaigns ahead of the onsite inspection visit by the International Bureau of Expositions scheduled around April next year.
They plan to operate an ‘Expo Citizen Participation Campaign (tentative name)’ with local artists at key spots for each generation (future generation, youth, middle-aged) to broaden the support base for the bid.
