[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) has launched safety inspections of construction sites in preparation for the winter season.
This initiative aims not only to prevent safety accidents that may occur at construction sites during winter, protecting residents' lives and property, but also to prepare for unexpected disasters.
The inspections are conducted by members of the Seoul City Construction Safety Advisory Group who visit the construction sites directly. The inspection targets include 12 large-scale and public construction sites and 39 small to medium-sized construction sites, totaling 51 locations.
The district began inspecting large-scale and public construction sites on the 5th and started inspections of small to medium-sized construction sites from the 6th. The inspections are scheduled to be completed by the 23rd of this month.
The inspection items include ▲whether safety measures have been prioritized ▲any abnormalities in facilities such as water supply and drainage ▲whether winter construction plans have been established to prevent pipe freezing, among other factors that could threaten residents' safety. For sites judged to have weak safety management, on-site safety education for construction personnel will also be conducted.
The on-site safety education, conducted by members of the Seoul City Construction Safety Advisory Group, is held quarterly and reviews accident cases by construction type or major issues pointed out during safety inspections. Additionally, safety management guidelines and preventive measures are discussed to emphasize the importance of safety management.
Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, stated, “Safety is something that can never be emphasized enough,” adding, “We will thoroughly inspect construction sites throughout the region to prevent safety accidents and do our best to protect the safety of our residents.”
Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Seong-heon) announced on the 23rd that it recently created a pleasant environment harmonizing with the surrounding nature near the entrance of the Bukhansan Jarak-gil trail within the district.
Located behind Bukhansan Doosan We've 2nd Apartment (at the entrance to Hongrok Badminton Court), this area had previously been marred by unauthorized cultivation and litter, spoiling the landscape.
The district compensated the private land (715㎡) through an urban planning project, then thoroughly cleaned up trash, waste wood, and old wire fences, and organized power and communication lines through undergrounding work.
They also replaced old stone retaining walls and planted cherry trees, azaleas, spiraea, and bokjagi trees.
Lee Seong-heon, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, said, “We expect that the Bukhansan Jarak-gil trail will receive more love from residents thanks to the improved environment around the entrance.”
The Bukhansan Jarak-gil trail in Seodaemun-gu is a 4.5 km walking path connecting Byeoksan Apartment in Hong Eun-dong (Sillak Park) ~ Doosan We've 2nd Apartment (Hongrok Badminton Court entrance) ~ Bus stop for village bus No. 11 ~ Okcheonam (Hongjecheon).
Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) has carried out the ‘Sangdo-ro Signboard Improvement Project’ to enhance urban aesthetics and create a safe walking environment, refurbishing signboards at a total of 290 businesses.
Through this project, in the two-way section from Jangseungbaegi Station to Sindaebang Samgeori Station on Sangdo-ro, the following were completed: ▲225 LED design signboard replacements ▲200 dangerous protruding signboard repairs ▲28 wall-mounted signboard repairs on buildings over six floors.
The signboard improvement project designates pilot maintenance zones through public applications and review committee deliberations. Applications can be submitted if 50 or more adjacent stores in the area agree.
Next year, the district plans to carry out the signboard improvement project targeting the commercial area opposite Chung-Ang University.
The district was selected as an excellent autonomous district in the ‘Outdoor Advertising Quality Improvement Evaluation’ conducted by Seoul City this year for 25 autonomous districts.
Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, said, “The signboard improvement project contributes not only to urban aesthetics and pedestrian safety but also to revitalizing the local commercial district,” adding, “We will create a clean and safe urban environment to make it a city of the highest value.”
