[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Quarantine facilities for COVID-19 infected individuals have reappeared in China.

Local media Pengpai News reported on the 22nd that Hangzhou City in Zhejiang Province has started operating "Health Houses" that can accommodate asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic COVID-19 infected individuals.

There are about 16,000 quarantine rooms distributed across 75 Health Houses in Hangzhou. Applicants can apply, and acceptance is determined after screening. Hangzhou City stated that accommodation fees are cheaper than those of regular lodging facilities, and daily meal costs are below 100 yuan (approximately 18,000 KRW).

Pengpai News reported that these facilities are gaining positive responses from local residents as they help reduce the economic burden on COVID-19 infected individuals who find self-quarantine difficult or do not want to transmit the virus to family members or others around them.

In Shanghai, Shanxi Province, Zhejiang Province, and other areas, hotels dedicated to COVID-19 infected individuals have appeared. Guests can choose stays of 3, 5, or 7 days. The hotels also provide customized services such as meals designed to aid health recovery, delivered to the room door by robots.

During the Zero COVID policy, China quarantined infected individuals in dedicated hospitals or hotels and placed close contacts in group quarantine facilities. However, after announcing easing measures on the 7th, mild cases are now allowed home treatment.
