[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The Jinju City Council in Gyeongnam successfully concluded its overseas official training in Italy, held from the 14th to the 21st. The council’s confidence in policy exchange, which attracted attention from local media, is expected to become a driving force in its legislative activities.
On the 6th day of the training, the council visited the Institute for Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage (ISCR) in Rome on the 19th to directly observe the cultural heritage restoration personnel training program and the current status of the research facilities.
Cristina, the general coordinator of the ISCR Technical Research Institute, explained the institution’s history, major current status, and the nationwide efforts for cultural heritage restoration. The council members conducted an on-site tour related to restoration work and cultural heritage utilization plans.
ISCR operates a five-year specialized educational institution affiliated with higher education programs, where practical restoration work is conducted.
Vice Chairman Choi Saeyong said, “This training greatly helped enhance the council members’ insight to monitor, check, and suggest progressive directions for city administration,” adding, “We will pay more attention to various projects such as the restoration of Jinju Fortress.”
On the same day, the city council met with Lee Seong-ho, the Ambassador to Italy, and Riccardo, the Head of National System Initiatives at CDP (Cassa Depositi e Prestiti), a national policy investment bank under the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance, to seek advice on international exchanges for Jinju companies. CDP briefed the business matching program and answered several questions from the council members.
On the 7th day, the 20th, the Jinju City Council visited Rome City Hall and held a meeting on Rome’s resource and energy circulation policies in response to the increasing scale of waste.
With Sabrina Alfonsi, Chairperson of the Rome Agricultural Environment Waste Committee, and Giuseppe Sorrentino, Director, in attendance, the council members discussed waste circulation policies together.
During the meeting, Rome’s administrative approach to gathering residents’ opinions through cooperation with private specialized institutions to minimize conflicts related to waste treatment facility site installations drew significant attention.
Rome is known to focus on gaining citizen consensus by transparently disclosing policy implementation simulation results to the public and using promotional materials such as diagrammed posters that make policies easy to understand.
Chairman Yang Hae-young said, “By gaining cooperation in Como’s silk industry and directly seeing, hearing, and learning from advanced overseas cases on-site, the council members’ perspectives on regional policies are expected to have broadened,” adding, “We will do our best in follow-up schedules such as adopting reports so that the training results become a foundation for legislative activities and policy task discovery.”
