[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] DGB Financial Group has selected Executive Director Hwang Byung-woo as the next candidate for CEO of DGB Daegu Bank.
On the 22nd, DGB Financial Group announced that it held the Group Executive Candidate Recommendation Committee (hereafter Group Recommendation Committee) the previous day and recommended Executive Director Hwang as the next candidate for CEO of DGB Daegu Bank.
The Group Recommendation Committee operated a total of 16 CEO development programs over the past two years in collaboration with external professional organizations for group executives. Since the succession process began at the end of last September, the committee reflected candidates’ management performance, internal and external reputations, and previous evaluation results to recommend Executive Director Hwang Byung-woo as the next CEO candidate.
Born in 1967, Executive Director Hwang graduated from Kyungpook National University with a degree in Economics and earned his master's and doctoral degrees from the same graduate school. After joining DGB Daegu Bank in 1998, he conducted research on the regional economy and financial markets at the Economic Research Institute. Since 2012, he has held positions such as Head of the Management Consulting Center, Branch Manager, and Chief of the CEO’s Secretariat. After his promotion to executive director, he oversaw the group’s mergers and acquisitions (M&A), acquiring Hi Investment Partners and NewG Stock. He is currently serving as Head of Group Sustainability Management and Director of the ESG Strategy Management Institute at DGB Financial Holding Company.
The Group Recommendation Committee explained the selection background, stating, "Candidate Hwang Byung-woo possesses the expertise and experience in the financial industry and organizational management necessary to navigate uncertain future business environments. He has well-rounded capabilities essential for a CEO, including corporate direction-setting, crisis management, communication skills, and execution power. As a young CEO, he is the right person to accelerate organizational changes such as digital transformation (DT) and to unite the capabilities of all organizational members, including the MZ (Millennial + Z) generation, transforming the bank into one where innovation is routine."
Executive Director Hwang is expected to be appointed as the 14th CEO of DGB Daegu Bank at the shareholders’ meeting at the end of this year, following the upcoming DGB Daegu Bank Recommendation Committee and Board of Directors meetings.
