[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Eunpyeong-gu (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung ·photo) has expressed its 'welcome' for Seoul City's 'Seoul Innovation Park Site Convergence City Development Plan.'
On the 19th, Seoul City announced the 'Convergence City Development Plan,' which includes developing the Seoul Innovation Park site in Nokbeon-dong, Eunpyeong-gu, into a residential, commercial, and cultural complex. The plan aims to create an economic and cultural complex space by 2030, including a landmark tower 60 stories high, a large-scale complex cultural shopping mall, and an industry-academic campus of the University of Seoul.
Eunpyeong-gu has continuously requested Seoul City that the Innovation Park site should become a space responsible for local jobs and expressed its 'welcome' for the significant reflection of Eunpyeong-gu's opinions. However, it expressed regret regarding the 'non-relocation of the University of Seoul's College of Liberal Arts' and the 'scale of the residential complex,' which differ from previous discussions.
Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, stated, "Since the development of Seoul Innovation Park is a long-cherished wish of Eunpyeong residents, a clear and swift project plan is necessary," urging Seoul City to proceed with administrative procedures promptly.
She also requested Seoul City's careful consideration for social economy organizations that may lose their place due to future development.
Furthermore, regarding the 'public-private partnership development project' method, the position hopes that detailed plans such as the division of roles between the private and public sectors and incentives for private companies will be announced soon to enhance project feasibility.
Eunpyeong-gu is actively engaging in consultations with Seoul City to reflect residents' opinions while taking the lead in administrative procedures for rapid project promotion. In particular, it plans to request that the surrounding commercial districts foster a co-prosperous economy and that nearby forest land be developed into parks for residents.
Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, emphasized, "With the opening of GTX-A, large-scale redevelopment, and development of Bulgwang and Susaek station areas, unprecedented major changes await Eunpyeong over the next 10 years," adding, "The successful development of Seoul Innovation Park will be an opportunity to elevate Seoul's urban competitiveness beyond Eunpyeong-gu."
