[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The cyber diplomacy envoy group VANK is launching a program to train 'digital diplomats' targeting elementary, middle, and high school students in the Incheon area.
On the 20th, Dosung Hoon, Superintendent of Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education, and Park Gitae, Director of VANK, signed a memorandum of understanding at the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education to promote global citizenship education and international exchange.
According to the agreement, the two organizations will jointly promote various projects so that Incheon’s elementary, middle, and high school students and teachers can develop the capacity to properly introduce Incheon’s history and culture, as well as South Korea, through digital international exchanges with people around the world, and take the lead in solving global issues.
They plan to develop educational content for training digital diplomats, spreading digital Korean Wave (Hallyu) through social media (SNS), and global citizenship education.
Superintendent Do said, "This is a very meaningful occasion to create an opportunity for Incheon students to participate in global citizenship education and public diplomacy activities together with VANK," adding, "I hope Incheon students grow into talents who contribute to global peace and coexistence and become cyber diplomats who accurately promote Korea to the world."
Director Park stated, "Just as Incheon symbolizes Korea going global, we will support the youth in this region to represent Korea and accurately promote Incheon and Korea through the most active digital exchanges with youth worldwide."
For the past 20 years, VANK has educated Korean youth as cyber diplomats and global Korean ambassadors, spreading Korea’s history and culture worldwide.
