[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] On the 20th, Oh Gwang-rok, a member of the Gwangju Seo-gu Council, proposed during the 3rd plenary session of the 308th regular meeting a 5-minute free speech addressing ▲the integrated management and utilization plan for Gwangjucheon ▲inclusion of Yudeok-dong’s historical and cultural resources in the Y-Belt project ▲and the appointment plan for health center directors to secure administrative expertise.
Councilor Oh pointed out the poor management practices of Gwangjucheon, which is managed separately by various departments of Gwangju Metropolitan City (Environmental Management Corporation) and Seo-gu Office, and urged the establishment of a dedicated organization and the concretization of an integrated management plan to create spaces for rest, walking, and sports.
He especially cited cases of urban stream management in other local governments such as Ulsan and Busan, saying, “I hope Gwangjucheon will be well maintained as an ecological stream and become a popular place for citizens,” and added, “Let us work together to create Seo-gu, a harmonious ecological city of people and nature.”
He continued, “For Yudeok-dong’s rich historical and cultural resources such as the 6th Hajungdo, the Donghak Peasant Army’s encampment site, and Deokhoje to be included in the Y-Belt Exciting Project and to be reborn as representative tourist resources of Gwangju, the active will and administrative power of Seo-gu Office are necessary,” he urged.
