On the afternoon of the 20th at 4 p.m., Kim Tae-woo, Mayor of Gangseo-gu, visited the construction site of the tentatively named ‘Gangseo Cultural Center’ to conduct a final inspection of the progress and repeatedly urged thorough prevention of various safety accidents.

That day, Mayor Kim toured the interior facilities of the Gangseo Cultural Center built in the area of 379-68, Hwagok-dong, and ordered prompt supplementation of any insufficient facilities.

Mayor Kim personally inspected from the top floor of the building to the underground parking lot, thoroughly checking for any inconveniences for residents.

Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “The Gangseo Cultural Center will establish itself as a cultural hub space for all 570,000 residents of Gangseo-gu, from children to the elderly, and as a key facility for the development of local culture and arts,” adding, “We will do our best to create a Gangseo full of culture and arts where residents can enjoy diverse cultural lives without going far.”

Meanwhile, the Gangseo Cultural Center, which was completed over 20 years ago, has continuously raised concerns about safety accidents due to aging facilities and demands for facility improvements from users.

Scheduled to open in May 2023, the Gangseo Cultural Center will have a total floor area of 4,240㎡ with 2 basement floors and 5 above-ground floors, including a performance hall with over 200 seats, a gallery, and practice rooms.

A warm donation wave is spreading throughout Jongam-dong, Seongbuk-gu (Dong Chief Lee Gi-won). Various local institutions, organizations, and individuals are actively stepping up to help ensure a warm winter.

Saejongam Saemaeul Credit Union (Chairman Kim Seong-hee) started with a ‘Love Kimjang Sharing’ event in November and recently donated 2 million KRW. The credit union, which selflessly volunteers for the underprivileged, participates in neighbor helping through various means such as ‘Seasonal Kimchi Sharing,’ ‘Winter Pajamas and Ramen Sharing,’ and ‘Small Donations’ events.

The Jongam-dong Residents’ Autonomy Committee (Chairperson Shin Jeong-hee) is divided into five subcommittees (Autonomy Planning, Health and Welfare, Education and Youth, Culture and Arts, Safety and Environment) and carries out various specialized projects for the community. On the 14th, they held a performance sharing meeting and the 6th issue publication celebration of ‘Neonaduri,’ donating 1 million KRW for low-income residents.

The Jongam-dong Community Security Council, led by Chairman Jeong Se-gyun, continues to receive personal donations from members. Many professional organizations such as the Saemaeul Women’s Association, Veterans Association, Barugesalgi Movement Jongam-dong Committee, Autonomous Disaster Prevention Team, Autonomous Crime Prevention 2nd Team, Youth Leaders Council, and Youth Association are participating in donations.

Religious organizations are also joining in sharing for the community. The Jongam-dong Church Association (a union of 16 churches in Jongam-dong, chaired by Pastor Lee Ho of Jongam Church) delivered Christmas gifts worth 10 million KRW to 151 security guards, cleaners, and management office staff in 15 apartment complexes in Jongam-dong. The association also continues various activities caring for the underprivileged, such as delivering love rice during holidays every year. Seongbok Central Church (Pastor Gil Seong-woon) continues donation activities including free meals, scholarship delivery, and regular support for low-income families beyond the association’s activities, and on the 14th donated 3 million KRW and 150 sets of black ginseng, requesting that these be used for elderly living alone and low-income families with nutritional concerns.

Additionally, the Hye-yeon Daycare Center in Jongam-dong visited the community center with children to directly donate funds raised through a flea market event.

A community center official said, “Recently, various companies, organizations, and individuals have been actively continuing sharing activities for the community, and we hope that this will help neighbors in need to get through the cold winter a little warmer.”
