[2023 Regular Admission] Korea University to Recruit 1,496 General Applicants and 244 Opportunity Equalization Applicants

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] Korea University Seoul Campus will select a total of 1,740 students in the 2023 academic year regular admissions. 1,496 students will be selected through the general admission track, and 244 through the equal opportunity admission track.

Most selections are based solely on CSAT scores, but the College of Medicine and College of Nursing conduct personality and aptitude interviews without separate scoring for disqualification purposes. The Department of Physical Education and the Department of Design and Plastic Arts combine 70% CSAT and 30% practical skills, while the Department of Cyber Defense combines 80% CSAT with 20% military interview and physical fitness test scores.

The application period for regular admissions is from December 30 to January 2. The CSAT reflection ratio for humanities departments (excluding the Division of Liberal Arts) and the Departments of Home Economics and Physical Education includes Korean, Math, English, two subjects from Social Studies, and Korean History. Korean and Math each account for about 36%, and Social Studies about 29%.

For natural science departments (excluding Home Economics and College of Nursing), Korean, Math, English, two subjects from Science, and Korean History are reflected. Korean and Science account for about 31%, and Math about 38%. The College of Nursing and the Division of Liberal Arts select a certain proportion of their admitted students separately from humanities and natural sciences.

In all humanities and natural science departments, English scores are deducted starting from grade 2 by grade, and Korean History awards bonus points up to 10 points for humanities grades 1 to 3 and natural science grades 1 to 4, with a 0.2 point deduction for each grade lower down to grade 8 within those ranges.

There are no designated subjects for the Social Studies section, but applicants must take two subjects. The second foreign language and Chinese characters sections cannot substitute for Social Studies subjects. Vocational Social Studies is only recognized for equal opportunity applicants who graduated from specialized high schools.

Detailed information such as designated CSAT subjects and score calculation methods by department can be found in the admission guidelines posted on the Korea University Talent Development Office website.
