Expansion of Address Area with 3rd Generation 3D Address System
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Road names, which had been assigned only to surface roads, will now also be assigned to three-dimensional roads such as underground and elevated roads.
On the 20th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety held the Central Address Information Committee and announced that road names were assigned for the first time in Korea to five sections of three-dimensional roads. This is significant as it is the first assignment since the amendment of the "Road Name Address Act" was implemented on June 9 last year, allowing road names to be assigned to three-dimensional roads.
In particular, the road names assigned to the three-dimensional roads this time include the main noun followed by ‘Gogadoro’ (elevated road) or ‘Jihadoro’ (underground road) to intuitively indicate that the road is a three-dimensional road.
The three-dimensional road address information approved this time will be officially announced on the 30th and provided through the Address Information Nuri website for use by fire departments, police, internet portals, and others.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety is currently expanding addresses centered on surface roads and buildings to include elevated and underground roads, as well as internal roads inside buildings.
Choi Hoon, Director of Local Autonomy and Decentralization at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, stated, “This is historically significant as it is the first time road names have been assigned to three-dimensional roads,” and added, “We will continue to expand the address information infrastructure so that location guidance is possible anywhere in citizens’ daily lives through address information.”
